Student Advisory Council

Mr. Dormer and I will be meeting monthly with several students from each grade. The first meeting will happen on September 26th. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss with students what is going well at our school, as well as areas of improvement.

We will provide regular updates throughout the year to share information.

5th grade Chromebook Exchange

On Tuesday, September 24th all 5th graders will swap their old Chromebooks they used in elementary school with a brand new device.

This device will be required to last for the next 4 years until they graduate from ENMS. Please be sure they take care of the device to avoid any technology damage fees.

We want to thank our IT department for making sure our students have excellent technology resources to use during their years at ENMS.

Transportation Update

Our buses have been picking up students on time most of the days this year. Our school does track bus arrival times and we communicate routinely late buses to First Student. As of the first few weeks, we are very happy our bus service has improved from what it looked like at this time last year.

If you have specific conerns related to transportation please see the document below. If you would like to visit the district transportation section of its website You can find that link HERE.

If you want to track the location of your child's bus you can use the First View Buss App on your smartphone. The passcode for East Norriton is 7VZ9. The link to the free First View app is available in the Apple Store and Google Play Store. Download it, add your student and enter the school code.

Attending High School Sporting Events

Students that are attending high school sports events at the high school need to be accompanied by a parent. A parent is not considered an older sibling, it must be an adult figure. If students arrive at the high school for an event without a parent they will not be permitted to enter the gates of the stadium.

Parent Questions or Issues

Although we would love to take the time to stop and answer parent questions for parents who report to the school. Often, this is not something we can do. Dr. Harper and I have routine responsibilities that often take us out of the office and into classrooms. We also have teacher observations, district meetings etc. Therefore, we are asking parents not to report to the school when an issue arises. We suggest you email the school counselor or myself or Dr. Harper with an issue or concern. We always respond within 24 hours and often we may be able to check our schedules and arrange a meeting that day.

If we are unavailable and you report to the school we do have a form that you will complete that will notify us of your concern and a response will be given within 24 hours (and usually that day).

Please respect this policy even when you may highly upset or have a serious question. The best approach is to contact us via email or contact the main office and Ms. Clemons will gather your information and pass it along to the appropriate administrator or counselor.

ENMS Cell Phone Policy

As we embark on another exciting school year, I want to take a moment to discuss a policy that we believe is essential for our students’ success and well-being: the requirement for all students to have their cell phones turned off and placed in their lockers during the school day.

In today’s fast-paced digital world, cell phones are a part of everyday life. However, in a school setting, they can become distractions that interfere with learning. By ensuring that cell phones are safely stored away during school hours, we are helping our students to focus on what truly matters: their education.

Research shows that limiting screen time during school hours leads to better concentration, improved social interactions, and reduced anxiety. When students are not preoccupied with texts, social media, or games, they are more engaged in classroom activities, more likely to participate in discussions, and better able to absorb and retain the material being taught.

Additionally, this policy fosters a more positive school environment. Without the constant pull of their phones, students are more present in their interactions with peers and teachers. They build stronger relationships, develop better communication skills, and learn the value of face-to-face connections.

We understand that cell phones are important for staying connected with your child. In case of an emergency, you can always reach the school directly, and we will ensure that your child receives any urgent messages.

We ask for your support in reinforcing this policy at home. Please remind your child of the importance of keeping their phone turned off and in their locker during the school day. Together, we can create a focused, supportive environment where every student can thrive.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. We look forward to another successful year at East Norriton Middle School.

Cell Phone Violation Consequences

1st-3rd offenses: Teachers will ask the students to turn their phone off and place it in their locker, or ask the student to give it to the teacher. It will be returned to the student at the end of the school day.

4th offense: Students will give their cell phone to a teacher and the teachers will give it to the main office. The parent or guardian must report to the school to pick up the device. Cell phones are placed in a locked safe in the main office until parents arrive. A one-hour office detention will be assigned for each violation.

Chronic cellphone offenses: It is the policy of ENMS that students who chronically violate the cellphone policy despite warnings, parents picking up the phone etc. will not be permitted to bring their cell phone to school, or will be required to had it to an administrator or school counselor at the start of the school day.

Please take some time to review this policy with your student.

ENMS Dress Code

ENMS does not have a dress code for our students. Many of our students choose to wear hooded sweatshirts. The only rule we have around hoodies is that students must have their hoods off. We need to see students faces and when students wear hoodies, combined with masks it makes it extremely difficult to recognize a student from a distance. Therefore, students who choose to wear hoodies must leave their hoods pulled down.

If we run into situations where students do not remove their hood they will receive consequences ranging from a simple discussion all the way to a suspension for chronic offenders. This is usually not an issue for us, but I like to remind parents at the start of the year of this policy.

Lastly, students also cannot wear "slides." All students must have shoes that have a back on them. Croc style shoes are fine as long as students wear the strap along the back of them. The biggest issue with slides is the tripping hazard they pose on stairs. Therefore, students cannot wear slides to school. Again, this is not a big issue here at school, but I like to remind parents of those two simple rules around our dress policy.

counselor

How do I reach a school counselor?

We have two counselors at ENMS. These individuals should be one of your first points of contact if you need guidance related to any issue or problem your student may be facing during the school year. We can usually resolve issues quickly when parents contact their child's counselor. If you need to speak to your child's counselor their contact information is found below.

5th and 6th grade School Counselor: Ms. Gena Bussell gbussell@nasd.k12.pa.us

7th and 8th grade School Counselor: Ms. Sarah Raimondi sraimondi@nasd.k12.pa.us

safe to say gif

Know someone who needs help or is in crisis?

Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late. With Safe2Say Something, it’s easy and confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.

Here’s how it works:

  • Submit an anonymous tip report through the Safe2SaySomething system

  • Crisis center reviews, assesses and processes all submissions

  • Crisis center sends all submissions to school administration and/or law enforcement for intervention

  • If needed, crisis center may contact tipster anonymously through the app
