October is Bully Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness and take action against bullying in all its forms. It's an opportunity for communities, schools, and individuals to unite, promote kindness, and foster a culture of inclusion. At ENMS, we work together to educate ourselves and others about the impact of bullying, support those affected, and create safe environments where everyone can thrive.

Some ways that middle schoolers can be inclusive are…

  • Be Kind

  • Help Others

  • Accept Differences

  • Take Turns/Share

  • Smile

  • Spread Positivity

ENMS Recognized for PBIS Work

The state of Pennsylvania has recognized East Norriton Middle School as a Tier I PBIS school.

To achieve this status ENMS has had to undergo routine monthly and annual evaluations by members of the state PBIS network over the last two school years. Our school will be recognized along with other Pennsylvania schools at the state conference in Hershey on November 13-15th. Our initial Tier I Fidelity recognition shows that we are fully embracing PBIS supports for students and staff. There are additional levels of recognition that we will continue to apply for to demonstrate our commitment to supporting students and teachers with recognizing and promoting positive behavior and culture in our school.

Additional schools in NASD that also received recognition for their PBIS work were Paul Fly and Cole Manor Elementary Schools.

ENMS Drama Club Info

Attention students and parents interested in our drama production!

We will be holding our first meeting about drama club during WINN on Friday, October 18th.  In order for students to attend, they MUST complete this google form.  If we do not have this google form completed by Tuesday, October 15th, your child can not attend our first meeting.  At the first meeting, we will talk about audition information for anyone interested in auditioning.  Attending the first meeting does not commit students to auditioning, it’s simply an informational meeting.  This google form must be filled out from a student account.

Just a reminder, this is ONLY for students interested in auditioning to be in the cast for our production.  We will be holding a recruitment meeting for stage crew later in the school year and will include information in the parent newsletter again.

Please direct your children to the following google form link: https://forms.gle/SgdimWKYEVrvsd969

ENMS Cell Phone Policy

As we embark on another exciting school year, I want to take a moment to discuss a policy that we believe is essential for our students’ success and well-being: the requirement for all students to have their cell phones turned off and placed in their lockers during the school day.

In today’s fast-paced digital world, cell phones are a part of everyday life. However, in a school setting, they can become distractions that interfere with learning. By ensuring that cell phones are safely stored away during school hours, we are helping our students to focus on what truly matters: their education.

Research shows that limiting screen time during school hours leads to better concentration, improved social interactions, and reduced anxiety. When students are not preoccupied with texts, social media, or games, they are more engaged in classroom activities, more likely to participate in discussions, and better able to absorb and retain the material being taught.

Additionally, this policy fosters a more positive school environment. Without the constant pull of their phones, students are more present in their interactions with peers and teachers. They build stronger relationships, develop better communication skills, and learn the value of face-to-face connections.

We understand that cell phones are important for staying connected with your child. In case of an emergency, you can always reach the school directly, and we will ensure that your child receives any urgent messages.

We ask for your support in reinforcing this policy at home. Please remind your child of the importance of keeping their phone turned off and in their locker during the school day. Together, we can create a focused, supportive environment where every student can thrive.

Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. We look forward to another successful year at East Norriton Middle School.

Cell Phone Violation Consequences

1st-3rd offenses: Teachers will ask the students to turn their phone off and place it in their locker, or ask the student to give it to the teacher. It will be returned to the student at the end of the school day.

4th offense: Students will give their cell phone to a teacher and the teachers will give it to the main office. The parent or guardian must report to the school to pick up the device. Cell phones are placed in a locked safe in the main office until parents arrive. A one-hour office detention will be assigned for each violation.

Chronic cellphone offenses: It is the policy of ENMS that students who chronically violate the cellphone policy despite warnings, parents picking up the phone etc. will not be permitted to bring their cell phone to school, or will be required to had it to an administrator or school counselor at the start of the school day.

Please take some time to review this policy with your student.

ENMS Dress Code

ENMS does not have a dress code for our students. Many of our students choose to wear hooded sweatshirts. The only rule we have around hoodies is that students must have their hoods off. We need to see students faces and when students wear hoodies, combined with masks it makes it extremely difficult to recognize a student from a distance. Therefore, students who choose to wear hoodies must leave their hoods pulled down.

If we run into situations where students do not remove their hood they will receive consequences ranging from a simple discussion all the way to a suspension for chronic offenders. This is usually not an issue for us, but I like to remind parents at the start of the year of this policy.

Lastly, students also cannot wear "slides." All students must have shoes that have a back on them. Croc style shoes are fine as long as students wear the strap along the back of them. The biggest issue with slides is the tripping hazard they pose on stairs. Therefore, students cannot wear slides to school. Again, this is not a big issue here at school, but I like to remind parents of those two simple rules around our dress policy.

counselor

How do I reach a school counselor?

We have two counselors at ENMS. These individuals should be one of your first points of contact if you need guidance related to any issue or problem your student may be facing during the school year. We can usually resolve issues quickly when parents contact their child's counselor. If you need to speak to your child's counselor their contact information is found below.

5th and 6th grade School Counselor: Ms. Gena Bussell gbussell@nasd.k12.pa.us

7th and 8th grade School Counselor: Ms. Sarah Raimondi sraimondi@nasd.k12.pa.us

safe to say gif

Know someone who needs help or is in crisis?

Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late. With Safe2Say Something, it’s easy and confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.

Here’s how it works:

  • Submit an anonymous tip report through the Safe2SaySomething system

  • Crisis center reviews, assesses and processes all submissions

  • Crisis center sends all submissions to school administration and/or law enforcement for intervention

  • If needed, crisis center may contact tipster anonymously through the app
