Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15th to October 15th, is an essential time for high schools to honor the rich cultural contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. Through events, lessons, and discussions, students gain a deeper understanding of the history, traditions, and achievements of Hispanic Americans.
Recognizing Hispanic heritage in schools promotes cultural awareness, fosters inclusivity, and encourages students to appreciate the diversity within their own communities. By celebrating this month, high schools help students embrace multiculturalism and create a more respectful and informed environment for all.
During this time Eagle News has presented information in English and Spanish to recognize the significance of our rich and diverse student community. With over 50 % of our student body being of Hispanic descent, it is critical to embrace the heritage of our community.
So far this month our student organization, UNIDAD, took time to help decorate our front lobby and display case. Throughout the building are signs acknowledging Hispanic Heritage Month and Latino's and Latina's.
Also this month two Hispanic motivational speakers featured from Gear-Up spoke to our sophomore class. The speakers focused on the strength of proper goal setting. The presentation was engaging and our students did a great job of participation.
